Lineup for St Patrick’s Day pop-up at Campervan Brewery taproom

Hi Folks,

This week sees Riddle-Me-Rye back at Campervan Brewery taproom with a pop-up stall on St Patricks day (Saturday 17th) from 12noon!

Read on for what we have planned…

The sourdough:

1/ White Sourdough – a straight-up sourdough made with Mungoswells organic white flour. Good for all occasions!

2/ Olive & Rosemary sourdough – classic flavour combination, with a mixture of green & kalamata olives, pumpkin seeds and rosemary.

3/ Walnut sourdough – packed with walnuts and uses toasted walnut flour in the sourdough culture. It has a mauve coloured crumb due to the walnut flour and a deep buttery walnut flavour which works exceptionally well with blue cheeses.

4/ Seeded Khorasan sourdough – Khorasan is an ancient grain with a rich, nutty, buttery flavour. It is more nutritious than modern wheat and is high in protein, fibre, B vitamins and minerals. If that wasn’t enough, we have added a blend of malted wheat flakes, barley flakes, sunflower seeds, millet and oats to this sourdough for extra flavour and bite!

5/ Sourdough Bialys – These delicious chewy savouries are great with beer! They were originally made by Jewish bakers in Bialystok, Poland. On the day we will have several different flavours available, including cheese, onion & chorizo.

Non-sourdough:

6/ Ploughmans scones – made with cheese, pickle & apple

7/ Vintage cheddar, bacon & English mustard scones

8/ Cherry Grenade brownies – made with sour cherries & Campervan Brewery Cherry Grenade beer!

9/ Matcha (Green tea) blondies – since it is St Patricks day we thought something luridly green would be appropriate!

Also available will be stocks of:

That’s Jammy Jams & Chutneys
LoveThatView Tea Towels
LoveThatView ToteBags

Lineup for the First Food & Flea Market Revealed!

Hi Folks,

After last week’s disappointing cancellation due to the “Beast from the East” Riddle-Me-Rye is back with a bumper crop of goodies to tempt you this weekend – Saturday 10th March, and we’ll be in fine form at the Food & Flea from 11am-5pm.

Here’s what we are plotting and planning to bake for the event:

1/ Roasted sweet potato, rosemary and parmesan sourdough

It is a beautifully balanced loaf with a real depth of flavour, buttery, aromatic and with a slight sweetness from the roasted sweet potato. 2/ Malted Multigrain sourdough

Made with malted wheat flakes, sunflower seeds, malted barley flour, sesame seeds, malted rye grains, pumpkin seeds and linseeds! This loaf is flavoursome and highly nutritious.

3/ Beetroot & Black Sesame sourdough

Beetroot & Black Sesame sourdough
Beetroot & Black Sesame sourdough

This loaf was a gift from the Beast from the East! Snowed in to Riddle-Me-Rye HQ with only my sourdough starter for company I had the chance to experiment with flavour and colour combinations and this one turned out a stunner! The beetroot and black sesame compliment each other beautifully with earthy, nutty flavours and a slight sweetness from the juicy roasted beetroot chunks. I would use this to make an open sandwich layered with hummus, rocket and roast chicken, dressed simply with a little olive oil, salt and black pepper. Or whatever else takes your fancy!

4/ Chocolate, orange and hazelnut sourdough

Chocolate, orange and hazelnut sourdough
Chocolate, orange and hazelnut sourdough

This bread is insane! It is THE perfect breakfast bread – forget nutella, forget marmalade, forget toast, this bread has is all going on! It really pushes the boundaries of what a sourdough can be. Try it once and you will be hooked – breakfast will never be quite the same again!

5/ 100% Dark Rye Sourdough (tin loaf)

Made with 100% dark rye flour this loaf stays moist for over a week. Rye is flavoursome and nutritious and this loaf has a distinct sourness which contrasts with the earthy nutty rye beautifully. A favourite on the European continent, it definitely deserves more attention on these shores so I will keep pushing it! 🙂

6/ Sourdough Bialys

These cheeky little devils went down a storm at the Campervan Brewery taproom so we are bringing them to the Food & Flea! They were originally made by Jewish bakers in Bialystok, Poland. On the day we will have a few different varieties, but you will have to pop along to the stall to find out what!

7/ Feta, garlic and spring onion scones

8/ Cherry & Almond scones – just like biting into a bakewell slice!

Last but not least “Fifteens” are a firm favourite of kids and adults alike in Northern Ireland, where I come from.  Every self-respecting cafe whether old-school or hipster has these bad boys available. So I am sharing the joy by bringing them to the streets of Edinburgh – you have to try these!

Additional Produce

As if all of that wasn’t enough I will have an awesome range of goodies available from some other local businesses, read on!

Edinburgh Butter Company

When Nick and Hilary aren’t busy being all-round lovely people they find the time to create wonderful homemade flavoured and cultured butters. Very exciting to have them available on the Riddle-Me-Rye stall for the first time, I’m sure we can pair them up with some of our bread no problemo!

That’s Jammy Jams & Chutneys (£2.75 each)

That’s Jammy!

That's Jammy - jams & chutneys
That’s Jammy – jams & chutneys

I am delighted to announce the latest of our strategic partnerships with other local small artisan businesses. I had the pleasure of attending a jam and chutney making class taught by That’s Jammy founder Chelley Campbell back in 2017. From that moment I was a convert to small batch jams and chutneys – they just pack in much more flavour and taste so fresh & vibrant in contrast with what you can find in the supermarkets – for me there is just no comparison. Chelley recently decided to step back from doing the regular circuit of farmer’s markets in Edinburgh so I am very happy to step into the breach and stock some of the That’s Jammy range on the Riddle-Me-Rye stalls so that market goers can still get hold of this superb range of jams and chutneys!

To start with I will be featuring:

chilli jam
red onion and thyme marmalade

raspberry jam with amaretto
spiced rhubarb and strawberry jam
strawberry and prosecco jam

I have some fantastic pairings planned with the Riddle-Me-Rye range of sweet & savoury scones so watch this space for serving suggestions, or better still try out some samples on our stalls!

Market Stall at Edinburgh Food & Flea!!

Really excited that we will be hosting a stall at the Food & Flea Market just off Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile, starting Saturday 3rd March! This will give us the chance to bring our sourdough bread, gourmet scones and sweet treats to the masses!!

The Food + Flea is Edinburgh’s alternative market. With permanent food stalls and traders changing monthly it is supported by a varied flea market at weekends and seasonal periods.

You will find Riddle-Me-Rye popping up here on a regular basis – keep an eye on our events page to find out which dates we will be in residence!

Trading hours for stall holders will be 11am-5pm and the market is located at Sibbald Walk, New Street, which is just off Canongate in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. Check it out!

We are excited to announce our first pop-up stall which will be taking place at the Campervan Brewery taproom (Jane Street, Leith) on Saturday 24th February from 2pm!!

From humble beginnings brewing out of owner Paul Gibson’s garage, Campervan Brewery have surfed the wave of the rising craft beer tide and quickly established themselves at the forefront of the Edinburgh brewing scene. Moving into a dedicated premises on Leith’s Jane street in January 2017 and taking on full time brewer Max has allowed Campervan Brewery to expand its capacity and meet the growing thirst for their fantastic & innovative range of craft beers.
