1/ Malted multigrain sourdough – Made with malted wheat flakes, sunflower seeds, malted barley flour, sesame seeds, malted rye grains, pumpkin seeds and linseeds! This loaf is flavoursome and highly nutritious, it is the sourdough equivalent of a granary-style loaf. (Medium loaf £3.50) (Vegan, dairy free)

2/ Butter-toasted oat porridge sourdough – This loaf has a soft tender crumb and a beautiful creamy flavour. Wholegrain oat porridge is incorporated into the dough during mixing, and finally the dough is rolled in jumbo porridge oats before being baked to a golden hue. Oats are one of the healthiest foods we can eat – rich in the soluble fibre Beta Glucan which has been shown to reduce cholesterol and help good bacteria flourish in our gut. Oats are also a very good source of manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper, zinc, vitamin B1 and antioxidants. They are a nutritional powerhouse!  In this recipe the oats are complimented by a mixture of organic wholewheat and organic white Mungoswells bread flours. (Large loaf, £4.00)(Vegetarian)

3/ Olive & Rosemary sourdough – classic flavour combination & firm customer favourite! This loaf contains a mixture of juicy green & kalamata olives, pumpkin seeds and rosemary. The olives and pumpkin seeds provide a good source of magnesium, iron, potassium, vitamin A and Omega-3 fatty acids (Medium loaf £3.50) (Vegan, dairy free)

4/ Wheat, spelt & rye sourdough – A sourdough combining these three classic grains! White wheat flour is combined with wholemeal spelt & wholemeal rye to provide all the goodness of whole grains! Extremely versatile, this works well for all occasions and is a great every day sourdough.

Please note that this loaf will be baked to a darker crust than the norm for Riddle-Me-Rye loaves for those folk who prefer a darker crust! (Medium loaf, £3.50)(Vegan, dairy free)

5/ Focaccia – Light bubbly traditional Italian bread made with biga (a portion of pre-fermented flour), focaccia is perfect for tearing, sharing and snacking. This week we will have the following varieties:

  • Red onion & gruyere (£3.00/slice)
  • Courgette & parmesan (£3.00/slice)
  • Rosemary & rock salt (Vegan, dairy free, £2.50/slice)

6/ Honey & Mixed Fruit Hot Cross Buns – We’ve been waiting a long time for April to roll around to bring back our Hot Cross Buns as a seasonal Easter treat!

So here they are, available for a limited time throughout April. This honeyed version is packed with raisins and sultanas. (£1 each, vegetarian)

Orkney Craft Vinegar

Both of these vinegars are fermented in small batches on Orkney and are probiotic live products.

The Bere Malt vinegar is made using Bere barley which is an ancient form of barley in use on Orkney for millennia. It is aged in oak barrels and has a deep malty, treacle-like flavour.  (250ml bottle, £8.50)

The Honey and Meadowsweet vinegar is made with pure honey & Orcadian spring water, infused with Meadowsweet. It is aged in chestnut barrels and has a light, delicate, floral/herbal flavour. (250ml bottle, £8.50)

How to order:

Complete the order form below by 7pm Wednesday (10th April) for collection/delivery on Friday (12th April). Collection from Riddle-Me-Rye HQ (Piershill Terrace, EH8 7EY) will be available between 5pm and 7pm.  Deliveries in Edinburgh by arrangement between 1pm and 4pm. Deliveries are £2, with a £10 minimum order, and available only to postcodes in EH1, EH2, EH3, EH4, EH5, EH6, EH7, EH8 & EH9.

Please note that I can’t give a precise time for deliveries due to the variable nature of the route, however, if you wish to contact me after the order book closes on Wednesday evening I will be able to give a better estimate of the delivery time.

The Riddle-Me-Rye pre-order service has now moved from Saturday morning to Friday afternoon / early evening.

Options for delivery / collection are as follows:

1/ Deliveries between 1pm and 4pm on Friday afternoon
2/ Collections from Piershill Terrace between 5pm and 7pm on Friday evening
3/ Additional options to be added in future once Riddle-Me-Rye has moved into its new premises. Timings may also be tweaked in future depending on demand.

1/ Riddler – artisan sourdough*Sold out* Our signature loaf – it is made with 80% white wheat flour,  10% wholewheat and 10% whole rye. The wholewheat and rye contribute heaps of flavour and this classic sourdough works really well for all occasions! Despite being predominantly white flour there is still plenty of vitamins & minerals in it due to the presence of small particles of bran throughout the Mungoswells organic white flour that we use. (Large loaf £3.50) (Vegan, Dairy-free)

2/ White Buttermilk sourdough – *Sold out* This is a simple white loaf with a difference! Some of the water in the dough has been replaced with buttermilk. Buttermilk is the liquid left over from churning butter. On its own it has a yoghurt like quality and taste. However, in this bread it transforms a straight-up white dough into something wonderful. The lactose sugar in the buttermilk enhance the crust formation so you have a loaf with an amazing crunchy crust hiding a beautifully soft and creamy crumb underneath. Since we use Mungoswells organic white flour for this loaf there is still plenty of vitamins & minerals in it due to the presence of small particles of bran throughout the flour. This loaf was a Bronze Medal winner at the 2018 Scottish Bread Championships! (Medium loaf, £3.00)(Vegetarian)

3/ Roasted Butternut Squash, Gorgonzola & Sage sourdough*Sold out* In this sourdough loaf the sweetness of the roasted butternut squash contrasts beautifully with the salty sharpness of piccante gorgonzola and the lemony bitterness of sage to produce a well balanced, flavourful loaf. The dough is given a dusting of semolina which delivers extra crunchiness to the crust.  (Medium loaf, £4.00)

4/ Double Chocolate, Orange and Hazelnut sourdough – *Sold out* This sourdough loaf is a perfect breakfast bread – forget nutella, forget marmalade, forget toast, this bread has it all going on! It really pushes the boundaries of what a sourdough can be. Try it once and you will be hooked – breakfast will never be quite the same again!

It is an expensive bread to make so far that reason we produce it in a smaller size than all of our other breads. It is available in a single or a double. A double portion is approximately the same size as our medium loaves. A single is half that, but enough for breakfast for two people.  (Single £3, Double £5.50)(Vegan, dairy-free)
