Lineup for the First Food & Flea Market Revealed!

Hi Folks,

After last week’s disappointing cancellation due to the “Beast from the East” Riddle-Me-Rye is back with a bumper crop of goodies to tempt you this weekend – Saturday 10th March, and we’ll be in fine form at the Food & Flea from 11am-5pm.

Here’s what we are plotting and planning to bake for the event:

1/ Roasted sweet potato, rosemary and parmesan sourdough

This loaf contains chunks of roasted sweet potato as well as sweet potato mash in the dough itself. It is a beautifully balanced loaf with a real depth of flavour, buttery, aromatic and with a slight sweetness from the roasted sweet potato. After shaping it is dressed with sesame seeds which add a final nutty note to the overall flavour.

2/ Malted Multigrain sourdough

Made with malted wheat flakes, sunflower seeds, malted barley flour, sesame seeds, malted rye grains, pumpkin seeds and linseeds! This loaf is flavoursome and highly nutritious.

3/ Beetroot & Black Sesame sourdough

This loaf was a gift from the Beast from the East! Snowed in to Riddle-Me-Rye HQ with only my sourdough starter for company I had the chance to experiment with flavour and colour combinations and this one turned out a stunner! The beetroot and black sesame compliment each other beautifully with earthy, nutty flavours and a slight sweetness from the juicy roasted beetroot chunks. I would use this to make an open sandwich layered with hummus, rocket and roast chicken, dressed simply with a little olive oil, salt and black pepper. Or whatever else takes your fancy!

4/ Chocolate, orange and hazelnut sourdough

This bread is insane! It is THE perfect breakfast bread – forget nutella, forget marmalade, forget toast, this bread has is all going on! It really pushes the boundaries of what a sourdough can be. Try it once and you will be hooked – breakfast will never be quite the same again!

5/ 100% Dark Rye Sourdough (tin loaf)

Made with 100% dark rye flour this loaf stays moist for over a week. Rye is flavoursome and nutritious and this loaf has a distinct sourness which contrasts with the earthy nutty rye beautifully. A favourite on the European continent, it definitely deserves more attention on these shores so I will keep pushing it! 🙂

6/ Sourdough Bialys

These cheeky little devils went down a storm at the Campervan Brewery taproom so we are bringing them to the Food & Flea! They were originally made by Jewish bakers in Bialystok, Poland. On the day we will have a few different varieties, but you will have to pop along to the stall to find out what!

7/ Feta, garlic and spring onion scones

8/ Cherry & Almond scones – just like biting into a bakewell slice!

9/ Raspberry & pecan brownies

10/ Fifteens

Last but not least “Fifteens” are a firm favourite of kids and adults alike in Northern Ireland, where I come from.  Every self-respecting cafe whether old-school or hipster has these bad boys available. So I am sharing the joy by bringing them to the streets of Edinburgh – you have to try these!

Additional Produce

As if all of that wasn’t enough I will have an awesome range of goodies available from some other local businesses, read on!

Edinburgh Butter Company

When Nick and Hilary aren’t busy being all-round lovely people they find the time to create wonderful homemade flavoured and cultured butters. Very exciting to have them available on the Riddle-Me-Rye stall for the first time, I’m sure we can pair them up with some of our bread no problemo!

That’s Jammy Jams & Chutneys (£2.75 each)

These superb jams and chutneys made by Leith local Chelley Campbell pack in much more fruit & flavour compared with what you can find in the supermarkets. I think we will be cracking open some samples to pair them with our scones this weekend!
